A physical altercation between adolescents took place on a street near a school in Missouri, resulting in one girl being hospitalized due to severe injuries.
A fight erupted near Hazelwood East High School in Spanish Lake, St. Louis on Friday afternoon.
At approximately 2:30pm, authorities were notified about an incident at the corner of Norgate and Claudine drives. Upon arrival, police found a young girl with a severe head injury.
The video of the fight was recorded and shared on social media, garnering over 14 million views in the last three days.
The footage captured a physical altercation between two young women, with a sizable crowd gathered around them on a public road. In the video, one of the girls is forcefully shoved to the pavement, hitting her head on the hard surface. Attempts were made to stop the fight, but additional individuals joined in, escalating the violence.
According to The Independent, the St. Louis County Police Department stated that a 15-year-old girl was apprehended on Saturday and is currently being detained by the St. Louis County Family Court for charges of assault.
According to law enforcement, the individual is currently hospitalized in critical condition.
Both of the girls are underaged and have not been given names.
The Hazelwood School District expressed their sadness on Facebook, stating that it is always unfortunate when a child is injured.
“Addressing bullying and conflicts within our community is a responsibility that we must all take on in order to find a solution for the well-being of our children,” the statement expressed. “The Hazelwood School District extends our deepest sympathies to all those affected and will provide further emotional assistance through our support and crisis team for anyone in need.”
“We look forward to continuing to partner with our community for the sake of our children. Please be kind and respectful of the families involved during this difficult time and pledge to help work toward the betterment of our entire community.”
Wesley Bell, the Prosecuting Attorney for St. Louis County, described the video as “disturbing” but stated that his office lacked the authority to take action in this matter.
“According to Mr. Bell’s statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, this is a case that falls under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile court, unless there is certification mandated by law. We can only hope for a complete recovery for the victim. This situation is truly heartbreaking.”
