City and Liverpool had an intense competition for the title in the 2018-19 season, where they both raised their standards significantly. In a nail-biting finale, Pep Guardiola’s team emerged victorious by just one point, highlighting the significance of their win against Liverpool in January. The decisive moment came when John Stones, a City defender, cleared the ball off the goal line with a mere 1.12cm to spare, saving his team from a potential equalizer. Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane’s goals, along with Roberto Firmino’s brace, were key factors in the match.
October 2021: Liverpool 2 Man City 2
The highly anticipated early-season game lived up to its expectations, with Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola leading their teams to battle it out on the field. The second half was where all the action happened, with Sadio Mane scoring for Liverpool, countered by a beautiful strike from Phil Foden. Mohamed Salah also delivered a moment of genius by maneuvering through the box and reclaiming the lead for the home team, but Kevin De Bruyne’s impressive long-range shot earned City a draw.

City’s frustration grew as Raheem Sterling’s goal was disallowed after a close VAR decision and Riyad Mahrez hit the post. However, in the end, Guardiola’s team emerged victorious yet again, clinching the title by a single point.
