To honor International Women’s Day, The Independent is showcasing noteworthy female leaders in British society through a portrait auction located in London’s West End.
Sane Seven has captured photographs of ten individuals featured on the list, which will be on display at Outernet London. The money raised from the exhibition will be donated to our affiliated organization, Refuge.
Included in the group are Kate Garraway MBE, Penny Mordaunt MP, and activist Jameela Jamil.
Ten women were carefully chosen from The Independent’s Influence List 2024, which honors 50 notable women in the fields of literature, politics, art, fashion, and social activism, who are leading the way for the next generation.
At the top of our rankings is Esther Ghey, whose daughter Brianna, a transgender individual, was tragically killed in February 2023. Since then, Ms. Ghey has been actively advocating for increased awareness of social media and smartphone applications among young people.
Claudia Winkleman, Mary Earps, Sue Gray, and Queen Camilla will also be added to the list.
Ten images will be revealed this month at Outernet London and will be on display exclusively in their Now Trending area, which is open to all audiences near Tottenham Court Road station at no cost.
Furthermore, the famed artist Tracey Emin has kindly gifted a special portrait to aid in fundraising for Refuge.
The painting, titled ‘The Empty Room’, depicts the woman reclining with her cat cuddled up under her legs. Her urostomy tube is also visible, extending from her waist.
At the end of the month, the photos will be available for purchase and the proceeds will be donated to Refuge, a non-profit organization that assists women and children who are escaping from domestic violence.
According to Geordie Greig, Editor-In-Chief of The Independent, it is important to have an International Women’s Day to recognize, advocate for, and improve opportunities for half of the world’s population. Women are frequently limited in their potential and while progress has been made, there is still much more progress that needs to be made.
“The Independent has a proud history of highlighting causes for – and by – women. This will never stop. Refuge is a wonderful example of philanthropy, aiding women in need – and we are proud to support them.”
