Jenni Hermoso has shared that “soccer remains a significant part of my life” following the controversy surrounding the incident involving former Spanish football federation head, Luis Rubiales, who kissed her without consent.
During a press conference, the 33-year-old midfielder addressed her difficult past six months since Rubiales was forced to resign following a controversial kiss on the lips after Spain’s World Cup final win against England. She also discussed her upcoming match in the Nations League against France.
On Tuesday, she expressed the importance of playing in another final and continuing on with her football career. She stated that the game provides her with the fulfillment she needs in life.
“I desire to keep experiencing the joy of playing with both my national team and my Tigres team, and I will continue to cherish this sport.”
“If we are victorious tomorrow, it will mark another historic moment for Spain.”
Rubiales’ actions, which have since resulted in a three-year FIFA ban from all football-related activity, prompted boycotts of Spanish national teams and sparked anger across the world over sexism in the women’s game.
Hermoso, who plays her club football in Mexico, found herself at the centre of the controversy and admitted she had found that tough.
“I feel fortunate to have reached the final after a grueling six months. Right now, I am fully immersed in the game and determined to win another tournament against Spain.”
”
Much has transpired since then. It has been a challenging journey of comprehending numerous concepts.
“I am currently still involved in playing football and my ultimate desire is to keep savoring the experience of wearing this team’s jersey.”
