Eliud Kipchoge will be heading a talented group of runners who are ready to participate in the 2024 Tokyo Marathon.
In 2021, Kipchoge emerged as the Olympic gold medalist in Sapporo at the Tokyo Games and then went on to break the course record in his most recent race in March 2022 upon his return to Japan.
Fellow Kenyans Vincent Kipkemoi Ngetich and Timothy Kiplagat are also slated to start the race on what is sure to be an emotional occasion after the passing of world record holder Kelvin Kiptum earlier in February.
The female competition includes notable long-distance runner Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands and defending champion Rosemary Wanjiru from Kenya.

When will the Tokyo Marathon take place in 2024?
The first World Marathon Major of the year is scheduled for March 3rd in Tokyo. The race will begin at 9:10 am, according to local time (12:10 am in Greenwich Mean Time), five minutes after the wheelchair athletes start. The race organizers have set a cut-off time of seven hours.

Eurosport will broadcast the Tokyo Marathon for viewers in the United Kingdom, with livestream coverage from 12am to 3am GMT.

The course spans 26.2 miles and winds through the heart of Tokyo, showcasing landmarks like the renowned Tokyo Dome. The race begins at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, also known as Tocho, and ends near Tokyo Station.
What other marathons are included in the World Majors series?
In 2024, Tokyo will kick off the six major marathons, followed by Boston and London in April. There will then be a break before the marathons in Berlin, Chicago, and New York take place in the fall.
