Naomi Campbell, a supermodel, ended Dolce & Gabbana’s bold Milan Fashion Week presentation wearing lingerie-inspired attire.
After just finishing her appearance on the Burberry runway in London, the 53-year-old donned an all-black ensemble consisting of a lace bralette, sheer skirt with a high leg slit, half gloves, a netted hat to conceal her face, and her iconic straight, long hair.
Campbell’s appearance signified the conclusion of yet another extremely seductive collection for the Italian fashion brand. This showcased the trend of undergarments worn as outerwear and combined it with a contemporary twist on traditional tailoring.
The 2024 fall/winter line was named Tuxedo, featuring flawless craftsmanship. The first ensemble showcased a short black tuxedo jacket paired with lingerie and a transparent skirt that flowed behind.
The clothing styles continued to experiment with masculine suits and incorporating lace lingerie. Some examples included tuxedo jumpsuits that were deconstructed and paired with revealing bras, as well as silk bloomers peeking out from under structured blazers. Certain models also sported traditional white shirts and bow ties with their suits.
It is difficult to witness tuxedos on the fashion runway without recalling the impact of Yves Saint Laurent. In his 1966 autumn/winter collection, he revolutionized the industry by presenting a tuxedo designed for women, known as Le Smoking, at a time when it was strictly a men’s style.
The collection from Dolce & Gabbana also had a hint of 1990s style, with a seductive twist on traditional tailoring that brings to mind Tom Ford’s era at Gucci. The fitted ensembles featuring touches of leopard print were reminiscent of Azzedine Alaia’s designs.
Other popular supermodels from the 90s, such as Eva Herzigova and Amber Valletta, also graced the runway alongside Campbell.
The majority of models were adorned in a similar manner, sporting netted hats paired with sleek, slicked-back hair, bold red lipstick, and smoky eye makeup.
The selection was not very colorful, as most ensembles consisted of only black pieces, accented with touches of gold, silver, and leopard print. The fabrics used were very luxurious, including lace, velvet, sequins, fur, and feathers.
The catwalk featured Murphy’s Law by Irish musician Roisin Murphy as models strutted, while the celebrity-filled front row matched the overall vibe.
Eva Mendes, an American actress, appeared to embrace the popular ‘mob wife’ trend on TikTok by donning a black corset dress under a statement-making leopard print fur jacket. Her hair was styled in a full beehive and she completed the look with oversized sunglasses, a leopard print bag, and gloves.
At the same time, Ashley Graham, a model who has previously appeared in Dolce & Gabbana’s Milan Fashion Week show, embraced a more masculine look by wearing a white jacket with relaxed black pants and a corset top.
