Inter Miami, led by David Beckham, aims to establish themselves as a premier team in the world of soccer and a widely recognized brand, similar to the New York Yankees, both on and off the field.
The legendary player from Manchester United and England has significantly impacted the continuously developing Major League Soccer since leaving Real Madrid for the LA Galaxy in 2007.
Beckham received a special offer that allowed him to buy an expansion team at a reduced cost, resulting in the creation of Inter Miami six years ago.
The team has faced challenges since their inaugural season in 2020, but the addition of Lionel Messi – widely considered the greatest player of all time – last year has elevated them to a higher standard.
Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez, who used to play together on Barcelona’s team, have all joined the same team as Argentina’s captain. This team is owned by Beckham and has ambitious goals of reaching new heights.
Javier Morales, assistant manager of Inter Miami, stated: “I have been with this club since its early days as the fifth employee, so I am familiar with it from the ground up.”
“When I initially spoke with David, he expressed his belief that this has the potential to become a prominent club. Given his background at Manchester United and experience with other major teams, that is his perspective.”
He desires for Inter Miami to be a leading team not only in the nation, but also on a global scale.
Miami’s impressive performance led to their designation as the clear frontrunners by bookmakers to win the MLS Cup in 2024, prior to the opening game on Wednesday.
They opened with a 2-0 win against Real Salt Lake and their favourites tag marks quite the turnaround from last term, when their memorable Leagues Cup triumph came during a dreadful MLS campaign.
Morales, who has advanced from being a coach in the academy to his current position as assistant to Tata Martino, noted that the mindset has changed and the former Barcelona players were accustomed to winning everything and achieving great success.
“They joined the club in June and have high expectations for us here. It won’t be a problem for them.”
“It may be a unique experience for the children and younger players on the team, but having experienced players to mentor them will create a beneficial dynamic.”
Beckham’s ambitious visions for Miami are resulting in success not only on the field, but also off of it.
In 2023, the Florida team was the most popular sports team searched on Google. They just came back from a tour of Hong Kong, Japan, and Saudi Arabia in preparation for the season.
Their attention-grabbing pink shirts are selling rapidly due to Messi’s addition and the appeal of Miami, contributing to the team’s evolution into a thriving worldwide brand.
Xavier Asensi, the chief business officer, feels that the distinct blend creates an atmosphere for a club that signifies endless possibilities.
“According to Barcelona’s ex-chief commercial officer, do you have a NY Yankees cap? It’s pretty awesome. However, I’m not a fan of baseball myself. But for those who are, that’s the potential we possess.”
We possess the ability to be alluring and become a popular fashion brand. People who wear our brand are well aware of its identity.
At times, individuals wearing a Yankees cap may mistake it for representing New York and develop a fondness for the city. However, it actually represents the baseball team. We possess the ability to create that same impact.
“To unlock this achievement, only the best will suffice. We must surround ourselves with top-tier individuals to unleash the full potential of our brand. This extends beyond just football; we have the ability to reach greater heights.”
