Tony Mowbray will temporarily step down as the manager of Birmingham City for a maximum of two months in order to undergo medical treatment.
Mowbray replaced Wayne Rooney as Birmingham manager six weeks ago, but will now take a break, and assistant manager Mark Venus will take temporary charge of the team in the interim.
Birmingham City has announced that Manager Tony Mowbray will be taking a temporary leave of absence from his on-site duties at the club for approximately six to eight weeks due to medical treatment.
Mowbray stated that he has received a medical diagnosis from his recent LMA Health Assessment, which will require him to undergo treatment. As a result, he will have to temporarily step away from his role as the manager of Birmingham City Football Club.
While I am away, my assistant manager, Mark Venus, will lead the team temporarily, with assistance from coaches Ashley Cole, Pete Shuttleworth, and Maik Taylor. I will still be available to offer guidance and support while receiving treatment.
The club has shown immense support for me and my family, and we are extremely thankful. I am confident that everyone will respect our need for privacy during this time.
Since his appointment in January after Wayne Rooney’s departure, Mowbray has led Birmingham to four wins, three losses, and one draw in eight games across all competitions. His most recent match saw a 2-1 victory against his former team Sunderland, who had fired Mowbray in December.
The CEO of Birmingham, Garry Cook, expressed his concern for Tony, his wife Amber, and their family. He hopes for a quick recovery and eagerly anticipates Tony’s return to the Club to continue the impressive work he has begun.
“During this time, the Club will provide full support to Mark Venus, Ashley Cole, Pete Shuttleworth, and Maik Taylor as they lead us forward.”
