Once more, Zendaya has demonstrated her status as a fashion icon, this time at the premiere of Dune: Part Two in London.
On Thursday, February 15, the 27-year-old performer came to Leicester Square wearing a futuristic robot-inspired outfit from Thierry Mugler’s 1995 Fall-Winter couture collection. The silver bodysuit had chromatic sleeves that covered her neck to hands, and also had sheer cut-outs with plastic detailing on her midriff and legs.
In 1995, the robotic bodysuit was first revealed, complete with a coordinating headpiece and a sheer black cape worn on the catwalk. To add her personal touch, Zendaya wore a sparkling diamond necklace with the striking ensemble. The outfit was styled by Zendaya’s longtime friend and frequent collaborator, Law Roach, who is also known for his work on the show Euphoria.
According to W Magazine, the Mugler catsuit was named the “Machinenmensch” – meaning Machine Human – and required six months to be made. The renowned fashion designer, who passed away in January 2022 at the age of 73, worked with Jean-Jacques Urcun to design the outfit, drawing inspiration from the fictional character Futura in Thea von Harbou’s dystopian novel, Metropolis.
It didn’t take long for fans on social media to once again declare Zendaya as the unofficial fashion queen.
“Wow, I am blown away,” expressed a fan on X (formerly known as Twitter) in reaction to the vibrant appearance. “Zendaya has truly surpassed all expectations.”
One individual responded with, “Without a doubt, one of the most stylish appearances of this decade.”
“No one can match her and her fashion,” commented a third user. “She’s unstoppable.”
As reported by members of X, the recipient of an Emmy award revealed a new outfit at the premiere of Dune: Part Two on the same night. The ensemble consisted of a stylish, long dress with a draped neckline and her cropped hair styled back.
During the premiere of Dune on Thursday, Zendaya was not the only cast member to make a fashion statement. Florence Pugh, who plays Princess Irulan in the second part of the sci-fi franchise, also wowed on the red carpet with her dark brown bedazzled gown featuring a plunging neckline, hood, and open back.
Timothée Chalamet wore a black oversized T-shirt and silver patterned trousers to the premiere. His Dune co-star Austin Butler stood out in a long, cape-like black blazer, paired with high-waisted trousers and a white sleeveless shirt. Actress Anya Taylor-Joy also made a statement in a whimsical, white plunging gown accessorized with a sheer headscarf.
During the promotional tour for Dune: Part Two, Zendaya has confidently displayed her fashion sense. Just the day before, she donned a stylish dark purple suit set by Roksanda in London, complemented by Bulgari and Nina Ricci jewelry. Earlier this week, Zendaya made an appearance at the film’s premiere in Paris wearing a stunning two-piece outfit from Louis Vuitton, consisting of a crop top with gold rose embroidery and a flowing skirt.
Fans can expect the Spider-Man: No Way Home star to turn heads once again at the 2024 Met Gala, her first time attending the annual fashion event since 2019. In fact, it was recently announced that Zendaya will serve as Met Gala co-chair alongside Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
The 2019 Met Gala, occurring on May 6th in New York City, has chosen the theme “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” and the dress code is “The Garden of Time”.
