Marjorie Taylor Greene has reaffirmed her incorrect claim that British Foreign Secretary David Cameron equated Republicans who refuse to provide additional aid to Ukraine with Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
“I have no interest in Lord Cameron’s opinions,” she stated in an interview with The Independent. “Furthermore, his use of derogatory language, comparing us to Hitler, is incredibly rude and needs to cease.”
She suggested that he should think about the words he is speaking. She personally does not care about his opinions. He should focus on the issues in his own country, where they are facing economic struggles and entering a recession. They should handle their own problems and not intervene in our country.
After being encouraged by Lord Cameron to pass aid to Ukraine and avoid repeating past mistakes, the hard-right Republican congresswoman responded with profanity on Wednesday. She referenced the appeasement of Hitler before the Second World War.
The Senate, controlled by the Democratic party, has approved a bill that would provide additional assistance to Ukraine. However, the bill is expected to face significant challenges in the House.
In a recent opinion piece published in The Hill, Lord Cameron emphasized the urgency of Congress passing the funding package for Ukraine. He called for an end to diplomatic formalities and urged Congress to approve the package.
“I am of the opinion that our shared past demonstrates the mistake of yielding to dictators in Europe who advocate for altering borders through violence,” he stated. “I do not wish for us to repeat the vulnerability shown towards Hitler in the 1930s. His return for further aggression resulted in a higher loss of lives in order to halt him.”
Lord Cameron, a former UK prime minister, expressed his desire for the West to display strength rather than weakness in the face of Putin’s actions. He referenced the events of 2008 when Putin invaded Georgia and the uncertainty of the response in 2014 when he took Crimea and part of Donbas. Lord Cameron emphasized the importance of showing strength since 2022, as the West has aided Ukrainians in reclaiming half of the territory seized by Putin without any NATO service personnel being lost.
Ms Greene stated on Thursday that she has no interest in reading the op-ed requested by the British embassy. She has a lot of other tasks to focus on instead.
On Wednesday, James Matthews from Sky News inquired with Ms. Greene about David Cameron’s statement regarding voting for funding for Ukraine. He asked for her response on the matter.
“I believe she attempted to draw a comparison between ourselves and Hitler as well,” stated Ms. Greene, mistakenly associating the appeasers mentioned by Lord Cameron with the Nazi leader.
Ms. Greene previously received backlash for equating the requirement of masks during the pandemic to the atrocities of the Holocaust. She subsequently made a trip to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC and expressed remorse for her statements.
Ms Greene stated on Sky News on Wednesday that she had no words for Lord Cameron if he chooses to use that type of language.
“Matthews asked if not voting for funding for Ukraine was comparable to appeasing Hitler, therefore making you an appeaser for Putin.”
“I believe I am not concerned with David Cameron’s words. I find his name-calling to be impolite and I do not approve of that kind of language. David Cameron should focus on his own country and, honestly, he can disregard my opinion,” she expressed.
While in Poland on Thursday, the foreign secretary expressed that he does not wish to give lectures or dictate to American allies, but emphasized the importance of Congress allocating funds to aid Ukraine both economically and militarily in the coming months.
At a media briefing, Lord Cameron expressed the need for all efforts to be made in ensuring Ukraine’s success this year and in the future.
It is crucial that we do not allow Putin to believe he can outlast or outmaneuver us. This is why the congressional vote holds such significance.
He stated: “I want to make it clear that I am not trying to lecture my American friends or dictate their actions in any way.”
As an individual who holds a strong and enduring affection for the United States, their commitment to democracy and belief in freedom, and who truly values the significance of our alliance, I express my perspective.
