On this date in 2019, Aaron Ramsey, a midfielder for Arsenal, signed a pre-contract deal with Juventus.
The Serie A team announced that Ramsey, who was 28 at the time, had agreed to a four-year contract and would officially join on July 1st, the day after his contract with Arsenal ended.
The confirmation of the transfer put an end to much speculation about the future of the Welsh player. He had declined a contract offer from Emirates Stadium.
Reworded: Juventus was widely considered the frontrunner to sign Ramsey, despite numerous other elite European teams such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris St Germain, and Bayern Munich being mentioned as potential suitors.
I am writing this message on my social media accounts to personally address the Arsenal fans who have shown immense loyalty and support.
”
“I was greeted by you as a teenager and you have stood by my side through all the ups and downs that I have faced during my time at the club.”
With a feeling of sadness, I bid farewell after spending 11 amazing years in north London. I express my gratitude.
“I will maintain my commitment to the team and strive to end the season on a high note, before embarking on my next journey in Turin.”
The Gunners have released a statement expressing their well wishes for Aaron Ramsey’s future, both personally and professionally.
Aaron has greatly contributed to our club since he joined from Cardiff City in 2008. He has consistently shown professionalism and will forever hold a special place in the hearts and minds of Arsenal supporters worldwide.
After leaving Arsenal, Ramsey appeared in 70 matches for Juventus and earned one Serie A championship.
He was temporarily transferred to Rangers before signing with Nice without a fee. Ramsey returned to Cardiff last summer after his contract with Nice was ended through mutual agreement.
33-year-old Ramsey found the net three times in his first six matches with the Bluebirds, but has been unable to play since September due to a knee injury.
