The manager of Chelsea, Emma Hayes, has shared her adoration for Star Wars by stating that the science fiction series contains important life lessons.
Hayes’ team, in their last season under her leadership before she transitions to the United States national team, are managing a hectic schedule with their sixth match in 18 days being the League Cup quarter-final against Sunderland on Wednesday.
During a press conference before the match, the 47-year-old was asked if the current season being her last gave her added motivation. Her response was unexpected.
“Last night, The Force Awakens truly inspired me,” Hayes said, smiling.
“I am confident that the rebellion will continue to motivate us, and we can successfully fend off the oppressive empire. Right now, my main focus is on watching The Mandalorian.”
Hayes, who is a mother to a five-year-old boy, was later questioned about her perspective on Star Wars as a football manager. She responded, “As an adult, I see the messages in Star Wars as crucial life lessons about the strength of love and the harm of hate.”
“And teaching a five-year-old why it’s important not to give into hate…When we have our light sabre moments – I’m pretty good on the light sabre, I’m always Darth Vader which slightly annoys me – I constantly remind him of the importance of community and looking after your people, much like the resistance did.
”
“He consistently reminds me that as long as we conquer the malevolent empire, the republic will endure.”
I am skilled with the lightsaber, but I always end up as Darth Vader which can be annoying.
In summary, it is important to have skilled finishers such as the Jedi knights who possess the ability to make a fatal strike against the Death Star.
Without a doubt, we would not have reached this point without Luke Skywalker. Therefore, all of my gratitude goes to him and the entire Jedi Order.
As she got up to depart, she ended the press conference by saying “may the force be with you.”
