Gap Inc. has selected Zac Posen, a New York-based creative, as their new creative director.
Gap Inc., the parent company of Banana Republic, Old Navy, and Athleta, is shifting its attention towards the creative aspect of the business. In a press release on February 5th, Gap Inc. announced the appointment of a 43-year-old designer as their new Executive Vice President and Creative Director, as well as the Chief Creative Officer for Old Navy. This decision was made by CEO Richard Dickson, who previously worked at Mattel for 10 years before leaving in July.
Posen, a graduate of Central St Martins, paved his way in the American fashion world as soon as he got to New York and has operated in the industry for over 25 years. Since starting his brand, the determined designer has played with elegant silhouettes and vibrant fabrics, dressing celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Katie Holmes, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Uma Thurman for red-carpet events. He’s also known for having an affinity for recherche structuring and ballooned skirts in his couture work.
Regrettably, the ex-student of Parsons School of Design was forced to shut down his business in 2019 as a result of a thorough evaluation of the company’s strategies and finances, according to the company’s statement.
In an interview with Vogue half a decade ago, Posen declared: “I must take time to contemplate and reorganize, while also evaluating the current state of our world and determining my next steps. I want to continue sharing my passion and artistic vision, and create a new community.”
I hope this new job will motivate him. In the official statement from the company, Dickson discussed his choice to select Posen.
“I am excited to announce the addition of Zac Posen, a highly acclaimed American designer, as we embark on a thrilling new journey for Gap Inc.,” he stated. “His extensive knowledge and deep understanding of our culture has continuously pushed the boundaries of American fashion, making him the perfect match for our company as we cultivate a fresh culture of innovation throughout our portfolio and revitalize our renowned brands.”
Posen’s recent position will place him in control of the tasks of creating, selling, and promoting. He will collaborate directly with Haio Barbeito, the President and CEO of Old Navy.
The winner of the CFDA Swarovski Perry Ellis Award for Womenswear views this position as an excellent opportunity at present.
He observed that Gap Inc. and its brands have had a significant influence on American fashion and pop culture for many years, and there is a lot of potential for growth at Old Navy.
“I am excited to become a part of Gap Inc. at this time when brand revitalization is increasing throughout the portfolio, based on excellent products, experiences, and a fresh creative culture,” Posen stated.
