Six people, including one passenger and five cabin crew members, were hospitalized following a rough landing of an American Airlines flight at an airport in Hawaii.
The six individuals were in a stable state and were later discharged from medical treatment. The plane followed its normal procedure and arrived at the gate, while the remaining 167 passengers and two crew members left the aircraft without incident.
Flight 271 had landed at Kahului airport, on the island of Maui, at around 2pm local time on 27 January, having taken off earlier that day from Los Angeles. Maui police department said that officers responded to a call at the airport at around 2.21pm.
The FAA is reportedly looking into the situation and has taken the plane out of service for inspections.
According to a statement given to The Independent, American Airlines reported that the plane encountered a problem during landing. The plane was able to taxi to the gate without assistance and passengers disembarked as usual.
Ensuring the safety of our customers and team members is our utmost concern.
The flight was scheduled to land at 12:47pm, but arrived over an hour later than planned at the Maui airport. NBC News reported that the plane spent more than an hour taxiing at LAX before taking off.
The incident comes at a turbulent time for US airlines, with the grounding of 737 Max 9 aircraft following a high-profile event at the start of the year in which the door plug of an Alaska Airlines plane blew out shortly after taking off.
The airplane was put back into operation from January 26th to January 28th following the approval of an inspection procedure by the FAA.
On January 18th, there were two separate incidents involving American Airlines. In the first incident, a plane slid off the runway during landing in snowy weather at Rochester airport in New York. A few days later, a flight from Texas to North Carolina was redirected to Houston due to reports of a fire on board.
