The Egyptian Football Association has announced that Mohamed Salah will come back to Liverpool to receive treatment for a muscle injury he sustained during his time on international duty.
The prominent striker had to leave the game in the first half of Egypt’s 2-2 tie against Ghana in Thursday’s Africa Cup of Nations group stage, raising worries for both his club and national team.
The 31-year-old was later announced to be absent for the Pharaohs’ next two matches, in the event that they advanced to the knockout rounds of the tournament in Ivory Coast.
He is set to participate in Egypt’s last Group B match against Cape Verde on Monday. If they win, they will advance to the last 16. After that, he will return to Liverpool to recover.
The Egyptian Football Association released a statement on Liverpool’s website stating that Mohamed Salah will be returning to England for further treatment after additional tests were performed. The decision was made after discussions between the national team’s medical staff and Liverpool FC. There is hope that Salah will be able to rejoin the national team for the AFCON semi-final if they advance.
In Sunday’s match against Bournemouth, Liverpool, who are currently at the top of the Premier League, faced difficulty in generating scoring opportunities without their star player. However, they were able to extend their lead by five points with a dominant 4-0 victory, thanks to two goals each from Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota in the second half.
Following the win at the Vitality Stadium, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp stated that it would be logical for Salah to return to Merseyside from the tournament.
The German confirmed, “That is the plan.” It is uncertain if it is already 100% decided, but that is the current plan.
“If he’s out for an extended period of time, it would make sense for him to undergo rehab with our team or our staff. But if that decision has already been made, I am not aware of it.”
After the incident, I immediately spoke with him. He has been in communication with our doctor since then, and I believe he will return soon.
Liverpool managed to overcome a sluggish beginning on a wet afternoon in the south coast to secure a convincing victory against the Cherries in their initial league game of the season, despite being without their top scorer Salah who has 14 goals.
In the second half, Nunez scored a goal to break the tie and later added another in extra time after Jota’s two quick goals. This gave the Reds a clear advantage as second-place Manchester City had a weekend off.
Klopp stated that we had a rough beginning and put ourselves in a difficult situation.
The ultimate goal is to emerge as the victor of the game, and as long as one remains in the game, any action within the game is permissible.
“Gradually, we were able to strategize and secure a victory in the game.”
Bournemouth, ranked 12th, suffered their second consecutive loss in the top division, having earned 19 out of 21 possible points in their previous matches.
Andoni Iraola, the manager of Cherries, believed that his team lacked tactical control once they were behind.
The Spaniard stated that they were taking on new tasks at a rapid pace, lacking discipline in their tactics, and ultimately performed poorly in the second half.
“They displayed a high level of precision in their performance today. The initial goal was challenging to defend, but we could have taken more action and defended better to react quicker to the subsequent opportunities.”
