During a flight in India, a passenger was stuck in the lavatory for the entire duration of the trip due to a malfunctioning door.
A passenger on a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru on Wednesday attempted to use the restroom shortly after takeoff. However, he became trapped for one hour and 45 minutes in a distressing experience.
Upon realizing that the man was stuck in the bathroom, the crew made attempts to open the door from the exterior, but were unable to do so.
The traveler was finally released from the small bathroom once the plane arrived at Bengaluru airport and technicians stepped in.
SpiceJet, a private airline, has apologized for the incident and announced that the passenger will receive a complete refund for their ticket.
According to the airline, a passenger was inadvertently trapped in the lavatory for approximately one hour during a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru on January 16. This was caused by a malfunction in the door lock while the aircraft was in the air.
“Our crew offered aid and direction to the passenger during the journey. Upon reaching our destination, an engineer unlocked the lavatory door and the passenger was promptly attended to by medical personnel.”
The flight crew allegedly exchanged messages with the passenger trapped in the bathroom by passing a note under the door.
The passenger was advised not to panic when their attempts to unlock the door were unsuccessful. The note stated that the plane would be landing in a few minutes, and requested that the passenger close the toilet lid and sit on it.
“Ensure your safety. The engineer will arrive as soon as the main door is opened,” the message stated. “Remain calm.”
At this moment, the event occurs while the aviation industry in India is struggling with numerous occurrences, including flight delays and cancellations.
The condition has further deteriorated due to heavy fog caused by a cold spell enveloping certain areas of northern India, causing flight disruptions.
A video of a passenger physically attacking a pilot on an IndiGo flight gained widespread attention on Monday. The pilot was assaulted while making an announcement about the ongoing delay of the Delhi-Goa flight, which had been delayed for over 10 hours.
A flight operated by Air India experienced a delay of approximately 17 hours, causing controversy when footage surfaced of passengers eating their meals on the tarmac while waiting.
