Travel companies are offering a tempting deal to escape the cold winter in the UK and travel to Africa for only £1.40 per hour. This offer is available for the next three weeks as companies are struggling to sell their remaining flights and vacation packages.
The Independent has found Tui, Europe’s biggest holiday company, is selling packages to Tunisia for departure tomorrow or on Friday 26 January for just £235 per person. It represents a 54 per cent discount on the full price of £506, which is being charged the following Friday 2 February.
The package consists of airfare (with a limit of 15kg for checked luggage) from London Gatwick to Enfidha airport and transportation to the four-star Phenicia Hotel in Hammamet. Along with a room for one week, those looking for a great deal will also receive breakfast and dinner as part of their stay.
In only three days, an individual who makes the national minimum wage could earn the necessary amount for the week’s expenses. According to BBC Weather, Friday is expected to have a high of 22C along with “sunny intervals and light winds.”
On Saturday, January 20th, Jet2 Holidays is providing a seven-day trip to Torremolinos on the Costa del Sol in Spain for a cost of £261. This deal includes round-trip flights from Birmingham (with luggage), transportation to and from the airport, and lodging with self-catering options.
Jet2 is offering a discounted price of £232 per person for a trip from East Midlands to Praia da Rocha on Portugal’s Algarve coast. The deal includes self-catering accommodation and the weather forecast predicts clear skies for Sunday and the entire following week.
Ryanair is offering a flight deal from London Stansted to Rome on January 22nd for £26 roundtrip, which is below cost. This same deal is also available for flights from Birmingham to Valencia on the same day.
The ideal location for experiencing the most sunlight in Europe is the Canary Islands of Spain. A round-trip flight with Ryanair from Prestwick, Scotland to Tenerife departing on Monday, January 22nd and lasting 10 days costs £45.
Egypt for cheap
In Egypt, popular tourist spots like Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh are experiencing a decline due to travelers’ worries about the Israel-Gaza conflict and assaults on ships, despite the fact that these events are occurring 1,000 miles away.
On January 27th, easyJet has flights available from Belfast International to Hurghada for a round-trip cost of £109. This covers a distance of more than 5,500 miles, which is comparable to the distance from the capital of Northern Ireland to Boston.
On January 26th, Wizz Air is offering round-trip flights from Gatwick to Sharm el Sheikh for £126. The price for the outgoing flight is £72, which is £15 lower than the Air Passenger Duty charged by the airline for each passenger. The current rate for destinations outside of Europe from Britain is typically £87.
There are also options for city breaks, such as going from Edinburgh to Beauvais in northern France, which Ryanair refers to as “Paris”. A round-trip for a Monday-to-Wednesday trip next week is priced at £26.
Over the upcoming weekend, British Airways is offering a package deal for travellers to fly from London Heathrow to Milan. The package includes a two-night stay at a four-star hotel and costs £166 per person. This rate is actually cheaper than just the airfare for a passenger who checks in a bag, as the package already includes this cost.
Ski flights are also inexpensive: on easyJet, flying on the benchmark route from London Gatwick to Geneva on Saturday 27 January for a week, the cheapest flights are £79 return.
Once the February school holiday has started, ticket prices increase significantly. Taking the same easyJet flight two weeks later would cost nearly five times more, with some tickets from Gatwick to Geneva on those weekends priced over £1,100.
According to Paul Charles, who is the chief executive of travel consultancy The PC Agency, some of these bargains demonstrate that you can indeed find great deals at the last minute.
“If you are able to travel spontaneously, then some of these deals are simply too good to pass up on.”
Travel companies have experienced a successful beginning to the year 2024, resulting in most of their sales being at higher prices for future dates. However, there are still some last-minute deals available for those in need of a winter getaway.
