The yellow dress worn by Aubrey Plaza at the Emmy Awards this year has inspired many amusing memes.
On January 15, the actor, who is 39 years old, attended the 75th annual event and made an appearance on the red carpet. She was recognized for her portrayal of Harper Spiller, the icy queen in White Lotus, and was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series award.
While standing in front of the Peacock Theater, Plaza caught attention with her attire: a bright yellow dress with a large sewing needle piercing through the square neckline. She completed the ensemble, created by Loewe, with silver earrings and rings, and styled her hair in a half-ponytail.
On X (previously called Twitter), Plaza’s attire caused mixed reactions among viewers. Some responded with memes poking fun at the front of her dress, which resembled a Post-it note.
A person on social media shared a picture of a dress that was altered to say, “I’m sorry, I can’t. Don’t hate me.” This quote references the Post-it note that Carrie Bradshaw received from her partner, Jack Berger, in the show Sex and the City.
A fellow individual posted a photo of Plaza on the red carpet and joked: “The Declaration of Independence eagerly anticipating its signing.”
“A third person joked about a photo of the actor at the event, saying that there was a large manila envelope of documents stapled to Aubrey Plaza’s chest.”
The needle poking through the actor’s dress was ridiculed by others, with some joking that Plaza had made the dress herself.
“I am attempting to resemble the object that holds the needle in place during sewing, to prevent its loss,” one person tweeted.
Someone jokingly asked, “How did you lose your eye?” and then made a joke about Aubrey Plaza accidentally poking them with her dress at the Emmys.
During the current event, Plaza was put forward as a potential Emmy recipient, but ultimately the award went to her co-star, Jennifer Coolidge, for their work in The White Lotus. The show itself received 22 other nominations for various categories at the 2024 Emmy Awards.
