A man from the United States who was flying for the first time has ended up facing criminal charges after becoming intoxicated and reportedly asking members of the flight crew if they wanted to join the “mile high club”.
FBI agents were summoned to address a disruptive traveler at Orlando International Airport following the arrival of a Spirit Airlines flight from Kentucky at approximately 10am on January 6th.
According to legal records, James Warren Finnister, age 37, inquired with the main flight attendant about joining the mile high club – a term used for engaging in sexual activity while on a plane at high altitude. He then proceeded to grab a second attendant, pulling them into his seat and asking the same question again, as reported by Fox 25 Orlando.
After breaking free from Mr. Finnister’s hold, the staff member informed her supervisor about the incident.
According to the court records, Mr. Finnister refused to remain in his designated seat and was posing inquiries regarding accessing the airplane cockpit, causing concern among the staff.
He eventually lay down on the floor of the aircraft in front of his seat after being relocated by flight attendants three times because of his disruptive and intimidating actions.
According to reports, Mr. Finnister was taken into custody for willfully disrupting the flight crew’s duties. He has since been released prior to his trial.
The person who flew for the first time admitted to taking shots before the flight to calm their nerves. However, in an interview with The Daily Beast, they called the charges “false”, stating that they only made a joke about the mile high club and were asleep for most of the trip, so they did not remember the incidents mentioned in the complaint.
The Independent has reached out to Spirit Airlines for a statement.
In the latter part of 2023, a video of a Southwest Airlines flight attendant went viral after she prohibited a mother from boarding due to her earlier display of drunken cartwheels at the airport.
