According to Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham is still in contention for the Premier League championship.
The Spurs have faced challenges during the winter months due to numerous injuries and suspensions, but they are still close behind the top-ranked team, Liverpool.
Tottenham is currently one point behind both Arsenal and Manchester City, with a game against Manchester United on Sunday.
“According to the definition, we are, aren’t we? Therefore, the answer is yes,” stated Postecoglou.
“I have consistently stated that until there is evidence to the contrary, why would you dismiss the possibility?”
“We’ve faced a challenging time, but we’re persevering. Despite four losses, we’ve managed to bounce back and stay in the game.”
“Our overall performances have been fairly consistent, but they hold little value if we do not end the season stronger than we started. This is our main objective.”
Spurs were anticipating a period of change after finishing in eighth place last season and selling their top scorer, Harry Kane, just before the start of the new season.
Postecoglou had a strong beginning with Tottenham, reaching the top of the standings in November. However, a costly 4-1 defeat to Chelsea led to a streak of four losses in the next five games.
After successfully adding Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin this week, the Spurs have come together strongly and their coach, who is Australian, is optimistic about the team’s potential and refuses to set any limitations.
Postecoglou stated that he believes it would not be in the best interest of the players and the club.
”
“We have fought hard and persevered to secure a respectable position in the league, and we have advanced to the next round of the cup. These opportunities are always within our reach.”
“We aim to address these challenges with strength and determination, without allowing any fears to hinder our progress.”
From the very beginning, we have had a clear vision of the type of football we want to play. Some aspects have exceeded our expectations and shown great progress, while other areas are still in the early stages of development.
“We have a foundation to build upon and improve from.”
“I am excited by this. Our goal and purpose must be to seize every opportunity to become stronger.”
Earning trust takes time, and it’s an important part of the process. The fact that they have invested in me shows their trust. You can only build trust by consistently demonstrating your capabilities.
The club likely found reassurance in our successful summer transfer period. As we approach this new window, there is a sense of urgency to act swiftly. The club must have trust in me and my decisions.
“I believe that the initial portion of the season has contributed to this progress and I hope it continues to increase, as it will aid in advancing our goals and reaching our desired destination.”
James Maddison’s outlook is positive as he is expected to resume training next week and aims to be ready for the FA Cup game against Man City on January 26.
Postecoglou stated that the player is making progress and has not yet participated in group training. After the upcoming match against Manchester United, there will be a two-week break.
I am looking forward to him returning to training with the first team for the two Manchester games, unless there are any setbacks within the two-week timeframe.
“I believe we have three matches scheduled for the week following the Man City game, so both him and Manor Solomon should be available shortly after that, as long as there are no unexpected issues.”
