Bayern Munich is currently in preliminary discussions with Tottenham Hotspur regarding a potential permanent agreement for Eric Dier.
The German champions’ manager Thomas Tuchel is intent on securing a defensive midfielder and a centre-half this January, and the 29-year-old presents a good tactical solution as he can cover both positions.
Bayern is still interested in signing both Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea and Joao Palhinha from Fulham. However, it appears that reaching a deal for Dier would be the simplest option. Chalobah’s recent injuries have made it more difficult for him to be ready, and Fulham is proving to be a challenging negotiator for their in-form midfielder. Tottenham is open to making a trade for Dier, who could benefit from a change of scenery.
Dier used to be at the forefront of a promising new era for both Tottenham Hotspur and the England national team. However, his progression has come to a standstill in recent years.
Despite this, Tuchel recognizes Dier’s tactical strengths and believes he would be a good addition to a team that is in need of defensive stability in their pursuit of winning the Champions League.
The Spurs have strengthened their roster of center-backs by reaching an agreement to acquire Genoa’s Radu Dragusin, while Djed Spence will be loaned out in the opposite direction.
Bayern’s recent attention towards Dragusin posed a potential obstacle to the deal, but the player ultimately chose to join the north London club, who had already secured the loan signing of Timo Werner. Meanwhile, Tottenham is actively pursuing a No 8 player, with Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher being their top target.
