Borussia Dortmund is interested in borrowing Jadon Sancho from Manchester United to return him to the Signal Iduna Park.
Sancho, who was acquired by United for a fee of £73m in 2021, has been absent from the team for the past four months due to a disagreement with manager Erik ten Hag.
However, the 23-year-old experienced a prosperous period with Dortmund where he scored 50 goals in 137 matches and led the Bundesliga in assists during the 2018-19 season. The German club is now aiming to capitalize on Sancho’s struggles at Old Trafford and bring him back to their team.
Ten Hag omitted Sancho from the team for the loss against Arsenal in September, citing the winger’s subpar performances during practice. However, the English player took to social media and accused the manager of unfairly singling him out and making false statements.
The Dutchman ultimately requested that Sancho apologize to him. However, despite encouragement from some of United’s veteran players, the forward chose not to do so.
Since then, he has been practicing with United’s Under-18s team after being removed from the first-team group. He has not played in their last 25 games.
Sancho is among the top five most costly acquisitions in United’s past, yet has only managed to score 12 times in 82 matches for the team. He is currently under contract with Old Trafford until 2026.
Due to Financial Fair Play restrictions, United may be restricted in their January spending and may prefer to sell Sancho. However, they have only received loan offers from the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq in September, after the European transfer window had closed. It has also been reported that RB Leipzig is currently interested in Sancho as well.
Dortmund, currently ranked fifth in Germany, have not achieved a win in their past four Bundesliga matches. However, they are able to provide Sancho with the opportunity to play in the Champions League, as they are set to face PSV Eindhoven in the last-16 round.
