ESPN has released a statement of regret following a situation where a camera operator captured a woman exposing her breast on the network’s airing of the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.
During the second half of Monday night’s College Football Playoff semifinal match between Washington and Texas, a video clip was shown after returning from a commercial break. The game ended with a 37-31 victory for Washington.
In a video of individuals strolling along Bourbon Street in New Orleans, a woman was seen revealing her right breast by pulling down her top. It appeared that she did this to catch the eye of someone standing on a balcony above her.
It is uncertain if the event occurred in real-time or was pre-recorded, but it lasted for at least one second before the camera panned away. Following the broadcast of the footage, the sports network released a statement of regret.
“We apologize and regret that the video was broadcasted in the telecast,” stated Bill Hofheimer, ESPN’s senior director of communications, to The Associated Press.
The final score of the game was 37-31, with Washington coming out as the victor over Texas. They will now move on to face Michigan, who defeated Alabama, in the national championship game on Monday, January 8th at NRG Stadium in Houston.
The existing four-team College Football Playoff will increase to twelve teams following the 2024 season.
