A female individual who previously asserted that her appearance made her too desirable for arrest has now been sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing her mother in a dispute over cigarettes.
In October 2022, 29-year-old Hend Bustami violently attacked her 61-year-old mother Afaf Hussanen by breaking a glass table over her head and then stabbing her with the shattered pieces in their shared home in Las Vegas.
After the assault, Bustami contacted 911 and admitted to the operator: “I believe I have killed my mother.”
Officers arrived at the location and discovered Hussanen’s body indoors, with several stab wounds. She was declared deceased at the scene.
The 29-year-old escaped before the arrival of officers, but was located by California Highway Patrol later on the same day near Barstow, California.
According to court documents, she was covered in blood and reportedly admitted to killing her mother following an argument over cigarettes.
Earlier this year, Bustami admitted to being guilty but mentally ill for the second-degree murder charge involving a deadly weapon.
Bustami was given a sentence of 15 years to life in prison by Clark County District Judge Jacqueline Bluth on Tuesday.
The brutal killing occurred only four months after Bustami gained attention for another run-in with the legal system, during which she argued that she was too attractive to be arrested.
In June of 2022, a 28-year-old individual was taken into custody at the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas for supposedly leaving a restaurant on the concourse without paying their bill.
According to a police report, Bustami departed Chili’s restaurant without settling the bill.
According to a police report, when authorities arrived at the location, they discovered her exhibiting a “belligerent” behavior in the baggage claim section.
She reportedly made threats to spit on the officers and accused them of attempting to sexually assault her due to her exceptional attractiveness.
She persisted in labeling the officers as “deviants” and claimed they were “bothering” her because they had “never encountered anyone as attractive as her”.
Bustami was taken into custody at the location for inappropriate behavior and processed into the Clark County detention center. At the moment of her detainment, there was also an outstanding warrant for her apprehension on a charge of assault.
She was scheduled to go to court on October 27 for the airport incident.
However, only a day prior to her court hearing, she was taken into custody for the alleged murder of her mother.
Bustami must receive treatment for her mental illness as part of her punishment.
In 2037, she will be able to be released on parole.
