Mark Drakeford has declared that he is stepping down from his position as the first minister of Wales effective immediately.
On X (formerly known as Twitter), Mr. Drakeford announced his resignation and stated, “I had promised to step down as the leader of Welsh Labour during the current term of the Senedd when I ran for election. That moment has now arrived.”
“I am grateful for the opportunity to have led this party. Our collective efforts over the past five years have yielded significant accomplishments, despite facing challenging circumstances.”
“Despite the turmoil in Westminster and the ongoing effects of Brexit, climate change, and the pandemic, we have achieved unprecedented results for Welsh Labour in the local government and Senedd elections through collaboration.”
Our top priority is to bring back a Labour-led UK government and begin fixing the extensive harm caused by the Conservative party in the past 13 years.
“I am committed to tirelessly working towards a Labour victory and fulfilling our promises to the people of Wales in 2021, striving for a stronger, more equitable, and environmentally conscious nation.”
