A young woman of Jewish descent was violently attacked and robbed while walking in London. The Metropolitan Police are treating the incident as a potential hate crime.
On Thursday at approximately 4:30pm, a 20-year-old individual was mugged by two women on Rostrevor Avenue in Stamford Hill, located in north London. The perpetrators fled in the direction of the A10.
Video of the event went viral after it was posted by the local patrol group Shomrim, depicting the woman being forcefully taken to the ground.
According to Detective Inspector Mike Herrick, the woman was extremely frightened and sustained bruises, but did not require hospitalization.
He stated that the incident was shocking and the victim was lucky to not sustain more severe injuries, making it a terrifying experience for them.
“We are fully aware of the psychological effects of these offenses and we are providing her with all the necessary support as we strive to identify the perpetrators.”
We are aware that the incident has been extensively circulated on social media and acknowledge that there may be additional apprehensions regarding the purpose of the assault.
“We will remain open-minded about the motive and maintain close collaboration with the local community to ease any concerns.”
The Metropolitan Police tweeted that a video of a young Jewish woman being violently attacked and robbed in Haringey yesterday has been widely circulated this evening.
