Laura Woods, a broadcaster, has criticized former football player Joey Barton for making misogynistic comments on social media.
Barton faced significant backlash for stating that women should not have a voice of authority in regards to men’s football.
The player who represented England once and was fired by Bristol Rovers in October, has reiterated his statement about X (previously known as Twitter), stating that “it’s impossible to watch a game nowadays without hearing the nonsense”.
Presenter Woods fronts TNT Sports’ coverage of the Premier League and Champions League, and has also worked for ITV, talkSPORT and Amazon.
She has accused Barton of instigating a “pile on” with his comments.
“Joey’s entitled to his opinion,” Woods said on X. “If he feels that strongly about women in the men’s game he could ask for a private conversation with the broadcasters & state his case.

Barton has been consistently posting about the issue for a second day since his initial social media post during Prime Video’s coverage of Wednesday’s Premier League games.
Barton initially stated that women should not have any authority in the men’s game. He then added that it was a completely different game and should be taken seriously.
Criticism has been directed towards Joey Barton for his comments.
“If you do not agree, our perspectives will always diverge. The female sports scene is flourishing, which is wonderful to witness. I cannot consider any statement made in the male-dominated realm to be significant.”
Barton included a clip from Manchester City’s Instagram post in his comments, which showed a female broadcaster making a minor mistake.
Barton has also proposed that any males who have spoken negatively about him and endorse female broadcasters are “castrated males”.
In response to the video, Woods stated that although she and Barton used to have a good relationship, his targeting of the young presenter was inappropriate.
She stated that she typically avoids these types of discussions because she does not want to fuel the fire. However, she believes that it is unfair to subject young vloggers to harsh criticism.
“I began my vlogging career and have always had a good relationship with Joey. He even sent me a kind message wishing me luck for TNT in June. So, does that also mean he is a eunuch?”
