Arsenal survived a nervy finish to establish a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League with a 2-1 win over Wolves at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners capitalized on their closest competitors, Manchester City, not playing until Sunday. Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard scored in the first 13 minutes, but a late goal from Matheus Cunha tested their hold on the lead.
In just six minutes, Saka scored the first goal after receiving a pass from Takehiro Tomiyasu. Seven minutes later, they increased their lead when Oleksandr Zinchenko passed to Odegaard who easily scored.
Arsenal failed to capitalize on their opportunities to secure a win, allowing the opposing team to put up a fight for the points after Nelson Semedo stole the ball from Zinchenko and Cunha scored.
Burnley secured their initial victory at home in the Premier League in a spectacular fashion by defeating bottom-ranked Sheffield United 5-0 at Turf Moor.
Jay Rodriguez scored a header for Vincent Kompany’s team within the first 15 seconds of the game. Jacob Bruun Larsen then scored a goal in the 28th minute, giving them a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, United had to play the rest of the first half with only 10 players after Oli McBurnie received two yellow cards in a row.
United experienced additional agony in the second half when Zeki Amdouni and Luca Koleosho each scored within a span of three minutes. Josh Brownhill then added a fifth goal, increasing the pressure on Blades manager Paul Heckingbottom.
Burnley defeated Sheffield United in a significant victory during their fight to avoid relegation.
After Burnley’s victory, Everton dropped to last place in the standings. However, their time in that position was short-lived as they defeated Nottingham Forest 1-0 in the early evening match.
Dwight McNeil scored the game-winning goal to give Everton a much-needed victory, just one day after the team filed an appeal against their 10-point penalty for violating the Premier League’s financial regulations.
Brentford secured a 3-1 victory over Luton at home thanks to goals from Neal Maupay, Ben Mee, and Shandon Baptiste in the second half.
Baptiste’s goal secured the victory for his team, following Jacob Brown’s goal for the opposing team. However, the Bees may have faced a potential setback as Kristoffer Ajer was forced to leave the game during warm-ups.
