Although not a powerful eruption, Mount Etna frequently erupts and produces clouds of ash that pose a threat to the nearby Catania airport.
The volcano in Sicily has been experiencing a period of explosive activity since November 2023.
It is thought that Mount Etna has the most extensive record of eruptions compared to any other volcano, with evidence dating back to 425 B.C.
