A heated argument between a married couple resulted in a plane making an unscheduled landing over 1,800 miles from its original target.
On Tuesday evening, the Lufthansa flight departed from Munich en route to Bangkok. The first few hours of the flight were without any major incidents.
However, during the trip, a disagreement occurred between a man from Germany and his wife from Thailand. The wife expressed to the staff on the ship that she felt “intimidated” by her husband’s actions.
According to Bild, the husband’s behavior included throwing food, trying to light his blanket on fire with a lighter, breaking his mobile phone, and undressing in the cabin.
It is claimed that he also yelled “I’ll murder all of you” while disregarding directives from the flight attendants.
The pilots chose to change course and land at Delhi airport. Upon landing, soldiers boarded the aircraft and escorted the passenger off.
A representative from Lufthansa informed The Independent that the flight was redirected to Delhi because of a disruptive passenger on board. The individual in question was turned over to the authorities.
They emphasized that the safety of passengers and crew is the highest priority while on board.
A passenger described the situation as “unsettling”, sharing with Bild that all passengers were instructed to stay seated and a loudspeaker announcement stated that filming or taking photos was prohibited.
Someone else stated: “There was complete silence among the passengers. It was a frightening circumstance.”
The flight to Thailand’s capital was delayed by two hours before finally departing.
This isn’t the initial occurrence of a couple arguing while at high elevation.
In October of 2020, a passenger on an easyJet flight was reportedly hit by his spouse following a rant against wearing masks.
A man, whose name was not disclosed, was caught on camera yelling at other passengers, urging them to retaliate and stating, “I’m being sincere, remove them, get them off.”
In a video posted online, he stated, “I have to say, the longer you continue to wear those masks, may God help you.”
He can be heard yelling at a woman, who is supposedly his spouse, “be quiet you f***ing fool”, before she reportedly struck him.
