One of the pieces up for auction in a collection of famous clothing is a top that was worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, for her engagement portrait in 1981.
The crepe blouse worn by Diana, featuring a ruff collar and loose pleats at the front in a lovely pink color, was photographed by Lord Snowdon, the royal photographer. Julien’s Auctions will be selling this item.
The clothing item, valued at $80,000-100,000 (£63,490-79,360), was designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, who later went on to design Princess Diana’s wedding dress for her marriage to the Prince of Wales.
In 2019, it was exhibited at Kensington Palace in London as a part of the Diana: Her Fashion Story exhibit.
In February 1981, the National Portrait Gallery stated that the publication of Diana’s portrait in Vogue magazine coincided with the official announcement of her engagement to Charles.
In the meantime, the four-day event hosted by Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies (TCM), known as Hollywood Legends, will include the sale of a gown previously worn by Diana.
In April 1985, the royal wore a garment designed by Jacques Azagury, a fashion designer from Morocco, while in Florence, Italy.
The item, which has a ballerina-style skirt, is valued at approximately $100,000-200,000 (£79,360-158,720).
Celebrities’ attire, such as a Givenchy outfit worn by Audrey Hepburn in the 1963 comedic film Charade, a sleeveless dress worn by Gloria Swanson in the 1950 noir film Sunset Boulevard, and Barbra Streisand’s sailor dress from her 1960s special titled My Name Is Barbra, are all being put up for auction.
The prices for these items have been estimated to be in the range of $1,000-50,000 (£790-39,680).
In addition, a laptop from Apple, specifically the PowerBook G3 model, that was seen on screen in the hands of Sarah Jessica Parker while she played Carrie Bradshaw in the popular show Sex And The City, is now available for auction.
The laptop used by Bradshaw to write her Sex And The City column, which opens each episode, is now available for purchase at a price range of $800-1,200 (£630-950).
The event “Hollywood Legends” by Julien’s Auctions and TCM will take place in Beverly Hills and also be accessible online from December 14 to 17.
