Dolly Parton recently reassured her fans that age is simply a number, as she rocked a halftime show in a legendary Dallas Cowboys cheerleader uniform.
The 77-year-old country music icon graced the stage during Thursday’s NFL game between the Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys. As part of the Thanksgiving festivities, Parton performed live, singing her hits “Jolene” and “9 to 5”, as well as a cover of Queen’s “We Are The Champions”.
Although Parton’s performance was spectacular, it was her outfit inspired by the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders that caught everyone’s eye. At AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, she wore a unique take on the traditional cheerleader ensemble. Her attire featured a blue cropped top with the team’s logo, a starry white vest, and coordinating white mini shorts. Underneath, Parton donned a bedazzled, sheer catsuit.
After her performance during halftime, fans quickly turned to social media to express their opinions on Parton’s iconic fashion statement.
One fan on X, previously known as Twitter, wrote, “We can always expect Dolly to deliver unforgettable looks and performances until she passes away and ascends to heaven.”
Another fan stated that #DollyParton is a national treasure.
Soon after, a few internet bullies began to criticize her attire as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, with one individual stating, “There are individuals who are throwing insults at Dolly simply because she is 77 years old and does not conform to societal expectations of an elderly woman.”
Many individuals commended Parton for confidently choosing her own style of dress, regardless of her age.
One fan expressed, “I love Dolly Parton, who is 77 years old and free to wear whatever she pleases.”
Another person commented, “At 77, Dolly Parton appears more attractive than I have throughout my entire life.”
Several viewers pointed out that Tony Romo, a former Cowboys quarterback and current CBS commentator, appeared to be very enthusiastic about Dolly Parton’s performance during the halftime show. “She looks incredible,” Romo commented during the NFL broadcast. “She’s fantastic. I mean, who doesn’t love Dolly Parton?”
The renowned country music star has always been admired for her remarkable sense of fashion – from her dazzling rhinestone jackets to her voluminous, blonde hair. In a recent interview, Parton shared that she was actually advised to tone down her style in the early days of her career.
In a four-part series titled “What Would Dolly Do?” on Apple Music and Apple Podcasts, Dolly Parton shared that her close friend and fellow musician Chet Atkins had advised her to tone down her appearance. According to Parton, Atkins believed that people would not take her seriously as a singer and songwriter unless she softened her look. She thanked him for his advice but ultimately chose to embrace her unique style even more.
“Years down the road, once I achieved fame, he approached me and stated, ‘Aren’t you grateful that you took my sound advice?'” she went on. When questioned by Bannen about what she would say to someone today who wanted her to alter her appearance, Parton aptly responded: “I would tell them to go to hell. I am not going to do it.”
The vocalist of “I Will Always Love You” further stated that an individual’s personal fashion should solely be based on what brings them joy.
According to Dolly Parton, it is important to know yourself, your happiness, and your comfort level when it comes to fashion. If you feel confident in how you look according to your own standards, you will perform at your best. Everyone has their own unique preferences and this is what fashion is all about.
