Violent confrontations erupted in the heart of Dublin as law enforcement and far-right demonstrators clashed. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon and resulted in five individuals, including three minors, being stabbed in a heinous assault.
A possible stabbing incident occurred outside a primary school in the busy Parnell Square East area of the northern part of Dublin around 1:30pm.
A 30-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man are currently hospitalized with severe injuries, while a 5-year-old girl is receiving urgent medical care at Temple Street Children’s Hospital.
A six-year-old girl is currently receiving medical attention for minor injuries, while a boy of the same age has been released from medical care.
During a press conference, law enforcement officials stated that a man in his 50s, who is currently undergoing medical treatment at a hospital, has been deemed a “person of interest”. They are currently not seeking any other individuals and have confirmed that they believe the incident is not related to terrorism.
There were riots on Thursday evening in the city center, resulting in destruction of several Garda vehicles, and setting fire to a tram and bus. Public transportation was halted and protesters caused damage to shop windows, as well as blocking a bridge with construction signs.
Garda Commissioner Drew Harris denounced the clashes as “shameful events” and attributed them to a “radical group fueled by far-right beliefs.”
Irish justice minister, Helen McEntee, is urging for calm and stating that the current events taking place in our city center are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Following a knife attack outside Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire, an Irish-medium primary school, clashes erupted a few hours later. Marie Sherlock, a senator for the Labour Party, reported that children were waiting for after-school care during the incident.
According to Siobhan Kearney, a witness who spoke to Irish national broadcaster RTE, she witnessed a man using a “stabbing motion” to attack children before other people stepped in and took a knife away from him.

She stated that she saw a man across the road making stabbing motions while carrying a group of children, so she quickly crossed the road.
I believe the man had stabbed two children, and we helped the children to safety with the women and possibly the teachers.
A group of individuals attempted to harm a man, but myself and an American woman encircled him for protection. After approximately three minutes, an ambulance arrived to transport the children, followed by another ambulance and fire personnel for the man who was on the ground.
Ms. McEntee expressed her shock at the attack, calling it “appalling” and sending her thoughts to the innocent children and woman who were targeted.
She stated: “I have received a briefing from the Garda commissioner and will maintain close communication with him and other senior gardaí.”
I am deeply disturbed by this attack, and I am confident that the perpetrator will face consequences. Right now, my focus is on the innocent children, woman, their loved ones, and those who are providing care for them.
The prime minister, Leo Varadkar, expressed shock over the incident at Parnell Square where multiple individuals, including children, were injured. He offered his thoughts and prayers to those affected and their loved ones.
During a statement at the location, Mary-Lou McDonald, leader of the Sinn Fein party, expressed that the children who saw the incident have experienced trauma.
She stated that the gardai acted quickly, but this was unexpected on a normal Thursday afternoon when children are supposed to come home safely from school and be picked up by their parents.
“I hope that those who were injured recover completely. The community is shocked, stunned, and appalled.”
Images and footage shared on social media depict a significant number of emergency services at the location.
A representative from the Garda stated that five individuals have been transported to different hospitals in the Dublin area. The injured parties consist of one male adult, one female adult, and three young children.
A girl has suffered severe injuries, while the other two children are receiving treatment for minor injuries.
The Irish police, An Garda Siochana, has been in communication with the parents of the three children who were injured.
